Best City Trips in Europe 2022

Europe, the second smallest of the world's continents, is full of surprises: unique architecture, rich history, mouth-watering cuisine, impressive mountains, and lovely beaches. With a lot of unique cultures and countries across Europe, there are over 200 languages spoken on the continent, although only 24 are recognized as the official languages of the European Union. Due to so much diversity, Europe is a super popular destination every year.

Best Europe Trips in 2022!

This is the year of opportunities! So take it and make a trip to Europe. Let’s jump right into it. Here is the 2022 list of the Best City Trips in Europe.

We have marked all the things you should do in each city. Check the bucket lists checklist!

1. Paris, France

Paris is famed as a must-see destination for very good reasons: its architecture and monuments, trendiest boutiques, gourmet food and wine, croissants in the morning, and the list goes on. There are so many things to do that it’s impossible to see everything in a short period of time. If you love “Bloody Mary” you need to know that this cocktail was invented in Paris at the Ritz Hotel. Legend says that this cocktail was made for Ernest Hemingway! Hemingway requested a drink that didn’t smell like alcohol, so he was given vodka mixed with tomato juice.

Fun fact: The Louvre is the most visited attraction in Europe. It saw a record 10.2 million visitors in 2018, while the Eiffel Tower sees around 7 million, and the Colosseum gets 6 million. Another thing, it is so huge that even if you spend only 30 seconds on each artwork it would still take you 35 days straight to see every piece.

When to visit: April to June and September to October.
Budget: it is one of the most expensive cities in Europe, expect to pay around 10 EUR for breakfast per person, 30 EUR for lunch and dinner. A single metro ticket costs 1.90 EUR. You can buy a 2-days Metro pass for 19.50 EUR, while a 1-day pass is 12 EUR.

2. Valencia, Spain

Valencia, Spain’s third-largest and one of the oldest cities, is famed for its temperate climate, brilliant beaches, great food – it is the home of paella – and Calatrava’s City of Arts and Sciences. It’s a top destination with the most romantic sunsets, the tastiest paella, most original festivities than in Madrid, and fewer crowds than you’ll find in Barcelona. When visiting you need to go to the Mercado Central (the Central Market) – it is one of the oldest and largest fresh produce markets in Europe.

Fun fact: This place is home to the narrowest building in Europe and the second narrowest in the world. You can find it in Plaça de Lope de Vega, 12, 46001 València, close to the cathedral.

When to visit: March to May and September to November. Summer is so hot that it is almost impossible to walk and explore the city.
Budget: food is pretty cheap here. You can easily afford to go out to the restaurants cheaply – 10-15 EUR per person. The best way to get around Valencia is by metro and buses or walking. There are Valencia cards available for a variety of times: 24h card – 15 EUR, 48h – 20 EUR, 72h – 25 EUR.

3. Brussels, Belgium

Brussels is a fascinating place with stunning architecture and interesting history packed into every street. The vibe of the city is so versatile – sometimes it seems very business-oriented (since it is the administerial center of the EU), but then it feels relaxed and does not take itself too seriously: Manneken Pis and The Comic Strip Centre. The best thing to do is to try their beer, chocolate, and waffles. There are more than 800 brands of beer in the city. While exploring the city pay attention to the houses’ walls, you might witness boy detective Tintin and his dog Snowy. For example here: Rue de l’Etuve 37, 1000 Bruxelles, Belgium.

Fun fact: More chocolate is bought at Brussels Airport than anywhere else in the world as we all know that Belgian chocolate is one of the best chocolate in the world.

When to visit: April to September.
Budget: expect to pay around 7-10 EUR for breakfast per person, 15-20 EUR for lunch and dinner. You can use the metro, bus or tram to get around. One-way ticket: 2.10 EUR (2.50 EUR when you buy it on a bus or tram) and it’s valid for an hour. Five-journey ticket: 8 EUR. One-day travel card: 7.50  EUR.

Tip: Brussels’ public transport operator, The Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company (STIB), has announced that from September 2021, its services will be free of charge for travelers under the age of 25.

4. London, England

London is an epic and massive city. There is no way you can explore everything in one go and it feels overwhelming. It features so many incredible palaces, markets, huge buildings, crowds, gorgeous neighborhoods, poshy cars on the streets, and beautiful people. We recommend prioritizing the top things to do to make sure you’ve seen and experienced the best of the best. You can start with the “Big Ben” that isn’t actually called Big Ben but Elizabeth Tower – Big Ben is the name of the bell that lives inside. Clearly, go and check the London Eye that is 135 meters tall and is the tallest Ferris Wheel in Europe.

Fun fact: remember the iconic black cabs? Each potential driver must complete a test called The Knowledge, which involves memorizing every single street in London.

When to visit: April to September.
Budget: This one is another expensive city in Europe. Expect to pay around £10 for breakfast per person, £25 for lunch and dinner. A single London bus journey costs £1.55 no matter how far you go (unlike the Tube zone fare system). You can even take multiple buses within one hour at no extra charge thanks to the Hopper fare system. Also, no matter how many buses or trams you take, it will never cost you more than £4.65 a day.

5. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Even though the weather can be tricky in Amsterdam it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it – there are endless things to do there. This city offers everything from tranquil boat rides through gorgeous, tree-shaded canals to world-class art museums and cannabis-stocked coffee shops. So take a boat trip and explore the houses that line the canals. You might notice that they are all super narrow. This is done on purpose – back in the 17th century, the locals were taxed on the width of their property, making a narrow house a great way to save money.

Fun fact: There Are More Bicycles Than People in the Netherlands – 84% of all Dutch people own at least one bicycle.

When to visit: April to September.
Budget: expect to pay around 7-10 EUR for breakfast per person, 15-20 EUR for lunch and dinner. You can use the metro, bus, ferries or tram to get around. If you are an active tourist, save money on travel with the “I Amsterdam” City Card, which offers unlimited use of the GVB public transport system for 24h (65 EUR), 48h (85 EUR), or 72h (105 EUR).

Tip: The “I Amsterdam” City Card offers you access to all major highlights and more than 70 museums, city-wide public transport, a canal cruise, and bicycle rent.

Did you know that Copenhagen is reputed to be the happiest city in the world? It is known for its canals, excellent cuisine, Tivoli Gardens, and for once being home to the children’s writer, Hans C Andersen. It is also famous for the beer breweries. This place is a super unique city that features a cycling culture and strong economy. The best thing you can do there is to rent a bike and explore the city using it. Don’t forget to try their licorice sweets.

When to visit: May to September. It gets cold and windy in the evenings.
Budget: expect to pay around 7-10 EUR for breakfast per person, 15-20 EUR for lunch and dinner. The best way to get around Copenhagen is on foot and by bike, especially if the weather is good. Tip: The Copenhagen Card (24h. – 57 EUR, 72h. – 102 EUR., etc) gives you unlimited public transport in the capital region of Denmark plus free entry to over 80 museums and attractions. You can pre-order it here.

8. Rome, Italy

Rome is always on the list of our favorites. It is known as the “Eternal City” because ancient Romans believed that the city would live forever no matter what happened to the world. This place ranked as the 14th most visited city in the world, the 3rd most visited in the European Union, and the most popular tourist attraction in Italy. They are also obsessed with everything “pasta”: you can find a Museum dedicated to Pasta and a Museum of pasta food. Getting around the city is easy. There’s walking, the metro, or one of Rome’s hop-on-hop-off narrated bus tours. Always be careful of the drivers when crossing the street – they are wild 🙂 And don’t forget to toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain with your right hand over your left shoulder.

Fun fact: St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City is the largest church in Europe (and also in the world) and it has a capacity of 60000 people.

When to visit: March to May and September to November. Summer is so hot that it is almost impossible to walk and explore the city.
Budget: Expect to pay around 7-10 EUR for breakfast per person, 15-25 EUR for lunch and dinner. One single journey will cost you 1,50 EUR.

Tip: If you are an active tourist, think about buying the three-day tourist pass for 16.50 EUR (BTI). It gives visitors unlimited use of public transportation from the moment it is first validated and for the following two days.

9. Prague, Czech Republic

Prague truly is a city like no other – modern but with a gothic vibe, tasty food, and shocking beer facts, with graffiti walls and the largest castle in the world. You have probably heard about the Astronomical clock that strikes every hour. There is a replica of it but in Seoul, South Korea. Also, don’t forget to pass by the narrowest street that is barely 50 cm wide. It’s location is U Lužického semináře, 118 00 Malá Strana, Czechia. Another top place to see is the “Dancing House”. It’s pretty crazy to see it in person.

Fun fact: The country has 932 castles – that’s more than any other country in Europe.

When to visit: April to October.
Budget: Expect to pay around 7 EUR for breakfast per person, 110-20 EUR for lunch and dinner. It is also very compact, you can travel around on foot. Vienna is so special. You can feel like you are going back in time and stepping up in class. It is “the city of music” so you can trace the footsteps of Beethoven and Mozart. Another interesting thing about Vienna is that it is consistently ranked at the top of the list of best places to live in the world. Remember “Bridgerton”, a Netflix TV show? They were featuring a lot of balls there. Guess what, in Vienna, 19th-century-style balls are still a central and important cultural highlight. The city’s peak ball season is January and February, during Carnival. You can find more information here.
